Five amazing swimming pools from around the UK
When we think about the kind of luxury found in some of the world’s most extravagant swimming pools, we often think about tropical climates and far away countries. But this month we’ve gathered up some of the finest pools the UK has to offer, hoping it inspires you to plan your own swimming pool design, or even simply seek out some of these glorious locations for yourself.
Exposed to the vista of the ocean, the Tinside Lido in Plymouth looks out from the British coast as a Grade II listed structure which is still in use today. Whether it’s capturing the majestic sight of the sun going down over the sea, or the clear blue skies on a fresh summer day, this circular lido is worth the splash at any time of the year. Built in 1935 in the Art Deco style, the Tinside Lido has previously been voted one of the best outdoor pools for Europe, not just the UK.
Loughborough University Swimming Pool
Your first instinct when you hear about a University pool is that it must be an athletic swimming pool, and you’d be right in this instance. However, the Loughborough University pool is one of the best in the country. Costing £6 million, it boasts 8 50m lanes – drawing some of the best athletes in the country. In addition to the athletic nature of the pool though, the University opens the pool to the public and actively encourages children to learn to swim in these grand surroundings, utilising a moveable floor.
Coworth Park Spa
Located in Berkshire, the fact that the pool in the Coworth Park spa is surrounded by other pampering amenities might give it a little bit of an edge. However, with underwater music and a sleek, illuminated pool this is the perfect post-massage pool. Outside of the M25, this pool provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life in the most glamorous way possible, making you feel like royalty.
Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa
The second spa on our list is once again helped by its sanctuary of pampering and relaxation, but the Bailiffscourt has a couple of other advantages. The first is the stunning outdoor pool, flanked by beautiful medieval timber structures, with lighting inside and around the pool to ensure you can swim beneath the stars as well as the fresh morning air. The added bonuses come in the form of a wooden hot tub and an indoor jacuzzi, allowing you to pick and choose where you unwind down on the coast.
London Sky Pool
Most pools are, quite logically, found on the ground floor of a property or outside in a garden, but new plans could see a vertigo-inducing addition to the former Battersea power station building. Planning permission has been granted for a pool which straddles two apartment block on the top level of each, leaving swimmers able to look down through the pool, seemingly hovering in midair.
